The childhood memory of waking up to the humming of the sewing machines and seeing my mom sitting there sewing all enthusiastic still puts a smile on my face. This blissful energy of being creative is something that I now have rediscovered for myself.
After having finished my linguistic studies in French and German I worked several years as a project manager in a translation company in Turku, Finland. The – literally speaking – moving year of 2004 came when I got married and a couple of months later my husband and I moved to Switzerland where Lucerne became our new hometown. Switzerland wasn’t all that new to me since I had been working as an au pair earlier, but at that time in the French part of the country. In Lucerne I continued working in a local translation company for several years, had my two daughters and after having spent a few years at home I continued working part-time as a French teacher. During this time I dusted off my sewing machines and I rediscovered the joy of being creative again. Sewing really is mindfulness at its best.
As sewing requests started dropping in the idea was soon born to start my own business. And since I work from home it allows me to be there for my daughters when they come home from school.
Nature has always meant a lot to me and therefore I choose to use only certified fabrics made out of organic cotton. It makes me proud to be able to make sustainable clothes and accessories that are in total harmony with the nature. The happy design fabrics from PaaPii Design inspire me to create clothes and accessories that are soft and comfortable every day wear for our little ones. I also love the fact that the fabrics are from my hometown Kokkola in Finland. In this way my Finnish roots are a part of my daily work since all the garments are hand made with care and love in my home atelier.
I hope to be able to share my joy and inspiration with you and I’m certain that the mallamaija products can put a smile on the face of every child!
